If you lead business change, you're probably already using Microsoft Copilot and rightly so for enterprise work. But the question I keep hearing from other change and transformation professionals is whether it's worth learning a second AI tool at all. I've just completed Anthropic's free Claude 101 course, so here's my honest, practitioner's answer.

What Claude 101 actually is

Claude 101 is a free, self-paced course from Anthropic. It covers the product side of Claude Projects, artefacts and connectors and awards a completion certificate you can add to LinkedIn.

  • No credit card.

  • No exam pressure.

  • No API key required.

  • You can finish it comfortably in about an hour.

What I got out of it

It's a genuinely useful introduction to Claude's core features. The content sits at a fairly high level, but it's clear, well structured and easy to follow which is exactly what you want when you're orienting yourself in a new tool rather than going deep.

Two things stood out. First, the guidance on setting up a skill: you tell Claude what skill you want to build, then let it ask you the relevant questions back. For change professionals who live in process design, that structured back-and-forth is a practical way to make sure the output is aligned to what you actually need, not a generic first draft.

Second, the Canva angle. I use Canva regularly for change communications and marketing materials, so I was interested in how Claude fits that workflow. Being able to give Claude design instructions and point it at a specific template could save real time, it shapes the content while keeping the output aligned to your chosen format.

Where it's useful for change and transformation work

Here's the strategic point. Most of us are Copilot-first, and for enterprise environments that's the correct default. But knowing a second AI tool well isn't hedging your bets, it's range. When you can show a stakeholder or client the difference between tools, and explain which one suits which task, you've moved from using AI to advising on it. That's the position most change professionals actually want to occupy. Claude 101 is one of the fastest ways to get that grounding.

The honest caveat

As a visual learner, I'd have liked more full walk-through videos built around role-based use cases, an end-to-end example showing how the features connect, from chat and projects through to artefacts, connectors and research. What's there gives you a solid understanding of what each element does on its own, which is enough to spot where Claude could add value in your work. But if you learn best by watching a complete workflow unfold, you may want to supplement it with your own hands-on experiment straight afterwards.

My verdict

I'd recommend Claude 101 to any change professional who wants a clearer understanding of Claude and the art of the possible. As someone who already uses Copilot and ChatGPT daily, I can see specific areas where Claude adds value, particularly structured thinking, content development and longer-form outputs. For a free hour of your time, it's an easy yes.

This is the first of two certification reviews I'm sharing. Next up is AB-900 Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals which is closer to the day job for most change and transformation teams. I'll publish that verdict once I've sat the exam.
